The are two inspiration sources for this study. One is a study of diffused light from Richard Robinson, the other one is YouTube video from great Alex Izakov that you can see here.

In the first one, I’ve tried to make the light coming out from the clouds as believable as possible. In the second one, I tried to make the wave transparent in the middle as if the light is coming through. The hardest part  for me was to paint this from dark to light. I am so used to paint from light to dark and it’s always hard to break old habits. However, while working on this it gradually got better and I started feeling more comfortable in changing my approach to color. I can definitely say that after painting this and a few other similar to this one, I now paint dark to light most of the times, especially when diffused light is part of the subject.
